Hydrogen trucks from VDL and Toyota: A Step toward Emission-Free Transport! VDL Special Vehicles and Toyota Deliver Hydrogen Trucks.

Eindhoven, Netherlands - In May 2023, the cooperation between VDL Special Vehicles and Toyota Motor Europe (TME) was announced as an important milestone in the transition to sustainable transport solutions. We are proud to produce TME’s first hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks resulting from this promising collaboration. Equipped with Toyota's advanced fuel cell technology, these demo trucks are not just a step forward, but a leap towards a lower carbon Europe.

As forecast, 2024 has been less successful than last year. Events which directly impact the results are coming together, including the further winding down at VDL Nedcar, the unfavourable situation caused by the delayed deliveries by the Buses & Coaches division, delays in the market and rising costs (wages, interest, legislation). The combined turnover has fallen. On a positive note, excluding the Car Assembly division, there has been a slight rise in turnover. In the second half of 2024, the turnover will be in line with the turnover for the first six months. The results are expected to show the first steps on the road to recovery.

Peter Wennink has joined the Supervisory Board of VDL Groep. On 1 September 2024, the 67-year-old former CEO of chip machine maker ASML joined the Supervisory Board of the industrial family business with its headquarters in Eindhoven.

Op 18 december hadden we een geslaagde ENI-bijeenkomst (Emissieloos Netwerk Infra) met als thema ‘opschaling in zero emissie’. Hiervoor was ENI te gast bij de VDL Groep en VDL Special Vehicles in Eindhoven. Na een presentatie van Hans Bekkers en Laurens Werdmöller en een demonstratie van emissieloos materieel, hield ENI twee workshops om volop inspiratie opte halen voor 2024.

VDL Castings Heerlen plans to phase out operations and cease business activities over the course of 2024. To this effect, a request for advice has been submitted to the Works Council. The employees, unions and Employee Insurance Agency (UWV) have been informed. All of the 140 employees of VDL Groep iron foundry, including approximately 115 permanent staff, will be laid off. The intention is to help them transition from employment to employment, either within a VDL Groep sister company or otherwise. VDL is exploring other activities for the site of VDL Castings Heerlen.

VDL Special Vehicles gaat samen met VDL Bus Venlo, VDL Special Vehicles verder uitbouwen. Om de groeistrategie te faciliteren, is bekeken of deze bedrijven, die beiden actief zijn in de mobiliteit, op het terrein in Born kunnen worden gefaciliteerd

Zoals eerder aangekondigd is VDL Nedcar in Born, als gevolg van de geplande productiestop voor BMW Group en het niet kunnen vinden van directe aansluiting daarop met andere voertuigprojecten, genoodzaakt om per 1 maart 2024 arbeidsplaatsen af te bouwen. De formele adviesaanvraag hiervoor is ingediend bij de ondernemingsraad (OR). Parallel hieraan werkt VDL Nedcar, de autofabriek van VDL Groep, onverminderd door aan nieuwe voertuigprojecten.

VDL Groep is going to serial-assemble battery systems at the Mobility Innovation Centre (MIC) in Born. BMW Group has placed an initial, long-term order. VDL will assemble approximately 125,000 battery modules for the German car brand’s after sales business until at least 2035. This means the cooperation with BMW Group will be continued after 10 years of producing cars at VDL Nedcar. VDL is in discussions with other potential clients for the serial assembly of battery systems (battery modules and/or battery packs).

Eindhoven, Sept. 12, 2023 - Following the previously announced collaboration between VDL Special Vehicles and Toyota last May, the companies are now launching their first demo truck powered by hydrogen. By integrating fuel cell technology from Toyota into VDL's heavy-duty trucks, Toyota aims to decarbonize its logistics operations in Europe, and in doing so, Toyota is joining VDL Special Vehicles in building a cleaner world

De voor dit jaar voorspelde groei bij VDL Groep is in het eerste halfjaar van 2023 uitgekomen. Het industriële familiebedrijf met het hoofdkantoor in Eindhoven ligt op koers om in 2023 een omzetgroei door te maken van 5 tot 10 procent. Het nettoresultaat is na de eerste zes maanden van het jaar gedaald, operationeel laat het nettoresultaat echter groei zien.
